This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
