This Special Release Pikachu Promo Aims to Be Super Effective On Resellers
To celebrate the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop stocked with special items. Enthusiasts will find products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are drawing from the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. The store will operate from the physical location and its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.
Pokécology Behind the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome packed with beautiful artwork that show creatures in their natural habitats. The concept like what an in-world scientist might publish after trainers provide field notes, or what Charles Darwin might have created had the Galapagos were populated by Pidgeys instead of finches. A key appeal lies in the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate subject for inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in ecology and behavioral science.
Why This Promo Card Different
It is common to issue special edition promos celebrating major tournaments and crossover partnerships. Many such collector items typically highlight the famous mouse Pokémon who serves as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this latest promotion apart however, is the unusually large size. While precise specs have not been immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be strictly limited, with customers able to get only a single card per purchase.
Curbing Reseller Activity
Per a company statement, a portion of the merchandise may also be available outside the institution itself. But, broader availability will only be specific stores within the UK. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire the card through the official web shop. While speculator demand is a given, it appears they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. For those feeling left out, consider the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to Chicago in the coming months.
"Every penny of sales made in the museum store and its web shop, which covers Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of hundreds of researchers who are scientific inquiry to discover solutions to the global ecological crisis," it notes.
