The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct souls, all possessing their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, though other scenes depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large blooms growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity standing might be a fake. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
