The English squad will commence their 2028 European Championship journey at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they achieve the expected passage for a competition taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not staged an English men’s match since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to host the England side for their first match on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The English side are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Launch and Demonstration

The championship was unveiled at an ceremony in central London on the previous evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the organizing bodies were heckled as they entered the venue by approximately 50 activists, who called for Israel to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The first match of the tournament will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a match that will feature Wales if they qualify.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to family audiences and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Irish team are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the standard process.

Venues and Playoffs

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
