In the wake of a pivotal victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has dramatically reduced the margin in the championship standings. What makes this late-season charge so impressive is the distance he has recovered. After the Zandvoort round in late August, he was a massive over a century of points behind the championship leader his rival and had openly dismissed his title chances.

The reversal began with substantial car developments introduced by his team at the Monza. Changes to the vehicle's underbody and front wing solved ongoing balance issues, allowing the driver to feel comfortable with the chassis once more.

Following those upgrades, his form has been nothing short of formidable, achieving five victories and multiple podiums. He was eager to highlight the collective effort behind this resurgence.

"We have triumphed where maybe we shouldn't have, through the right call as a unit," he noted. "My collaboration with my team on the pit wall and the whole team... we are deeply connected."

With the paddock head to Abu Dhabi, the championship picture is crystal clear.

• Lando Norris will claim his maiden world title if he finishes ahead of both Verstappen and Piastri or achieves a top-three position.
• Max Verstappen has to take the checkered flag first and needs that his rival is not in the top three.
