The British tennis star secured the most important success of his career by rebounding from a early deficit to beat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had earlier beaten Alcaraz on two separate matches, this victory signifies Norrie's initial victory over a reigning world No 1.

"Enormous. Incredibly significant for me," stated Norrie, who is now the newest UK male player in the record books to overcome a world No 1. "Returning from a physical setback last year, I was defeated in the initial match of qualifiers here. I just sought to embrace my tennis in the second half of the year. To get a victory like this, it's the greatest win of my career, my initial victory over the global number one and arguably the most in-form athlete in the sport right now."

The British player, positioned 31st globally, also ended Alcaraz's dominant streak of nine finals in a row and 17 successive premier event victories, which marked the top run of results in the Spaniard's early professional path.

The top seed seemed to be moving confidently to a win early on as he eased through the opening set. Yet, Norrie slowly fought his way into the match by delivering with greater precision and dragging the Spanish opponent into lengthy, grueling points. His persistent steadiness and reliability steadily made an impact.

During large parts of the battle, the world number one served well but he struggled badly to get his timing right with his rally strokes. The young star looked notably struggling striking his forehand, which has been the most effective stroke in the world for much of this year, haemorrhaging 29 forehand miscues and a total of 54 errors. Across the net, the British player gave Alcaraz minimal unforced errors, sustaining his consistency, physicality and penetration the entire contest while delivering effective serves and choosing his moments to move inside the baseline and strike effectively.
