Nearly 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast woke up without power on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems passed over the region, producing powerful gusts hitting 109km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Extensive Impact

Locals observed giant hailstones measuring up to 7cm in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that multiple regions across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the widespread outages.

State Emergency Services received over five hundred calls for help across the region, mainly for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

At one point on the previous day, in excess of twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were predicted to continue along large portions of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

The following day was predicted as the wettest day, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across multiple regions of both regions.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities warned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.

This warning comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to significant health impacts in the region.
