England Bowling Consultant Southee Uncertain on Ashes Participation
The bowler's last Test match for the Kiwis was versus the English side in December 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.
The ex- New Zealand seamer is only likely to be present for the first Test due to his participation in the International League T20 tournament, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, aged 36, took up a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after taking 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.
Commenting as the English squad for the opening of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was named, Southee said of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the present time.
"We'll see the outcome over the next little while."
English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australian team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which begins on 21 November.
"In my view there's at any time a poor Aussie side," Southee remarked.
"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the caliber of [England's] side that's going out to Australia is excellent.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
However, before England head to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on Saturday.
