Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in 882 Days

19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a close third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
