Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with results so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
